Almost everyone would love a dream kitchen. Redoing a kitchen can add lots of value to any home, and being able to design an entire kitchen from bottom up is only a few of us ever get to do. A good kitchen planner tool is an invaluable piece of software that will help you get the kitchen you really want.
Many programs can be found for free online. Certain high end home improvement stores will give you a free DVD to bring home once you put down a deposit on your new cabinets, etc. Others are available to purchase online either by ordering the DVD or you will have access to their website and all your work and plans will be web based. These programs are frequently used by interior designers and architects, and are a bit difficult to use if you don't have experience with blue prints.
Most of the free programs out there will do what you need. After all, what your goal should be is to figure out where certain things should be placed. Once you have all the contractors involved you may find out that your refrigerator location just won't be feasible without an expensive plumbing bill.
As you begin your planning phase you will see white paper topped with blue lines to make a graph. You first chore is to assign a scale to the graph. For instance it could be that each block equals an inch and therefore each inch equals a foot. Anyone involved in working on your kitchen will need to fully understand what scale your kitchen will be built at.
Once you have decided on your scale, you then have some general icons to use. Since these programs are usually in Windows or Mac, you can drag and drop these icons onto your floor plan. As you do all this dragging and dropping you will see your kitchen begin to take shape.
After the exact scale has been assigned, you then get to the fun part. These programs come with standard kitchen based icons like microwaves, ovens, islands, sinks, counters, cabinets, lighting fixtures, backsplashes, and even flooring. You can drag icons to where you'd like to place them and even save or replace them. Some programs even let you choose colors and textures to give you a better idea.
Your layout at this point is more important than the type of cabinets or the quality of the utility sink. Your contractors will be able to tell you what will work and what won't.
